Hello from Momokai!

A few weeks ago someone on our Discord asked if we are still alive and that made us realized that we have to provide a small update on our store.

Yes! Despite the lack of updates, we are still alive

We have been moving a little slower in these past two years to refocus on aspects we find more important. Things like more thoughtful engineering and sharing our expertise.

In 2025, we were heavily affected by the tariffs situation in the US so we have decided to pause product releases until the situation has settled down. Now that the tariffs are mostly gone, we can pick up work on our product releases.

Tap Trio V2

Starting with the Tap Trio V2, we made some small but meaningful update to our popular Tap Trio macropad. Nothing major has changed, we sharpened up the corners to give it a more tidied up look, swapped some internal components to better and more reliable parts, and darkened the acrylic pieces for a darker look on the Black variant.

Going forward, we want to be mindful with our product designs to be longer lasting and less wasteful. We designed the Tap Trio V2 enclosure to be backwards/forwards compatible with the Tap Trio First Edition*. So the PCB on both versions are interchangeable and replaceable. We will soon be releasing replacement PCBs and alternative PCBs that you can put into your Tap Trio! We have some requests for a hall effect Tap Trio so maybe that might come up soon.

Additionally we will soon release a new color option called Cosmic Purple, it has a shiny purple coating that turns into a fiery red at an angle.

New hardware for 2026

While we can't release any information yet, we have plans on releasing a new macropad with a special knob and possibly a keyboard. Due to the tariffs in 2025, we reduced our R&D to focus on making current products for enterprise customers. Now we are back and ready to work.

Sun-setting Sim Pad line

Starting in 2026, we will be sun-setting the Sim Pad hardware line. Sim Pad Nano has already been sold out and we are not planning on replenishing our inventory. The Sim Pad series was originally designed in 2017 and the hardware/software cannot be updated to meet modern security requirements. Existing Sim Pad 2 and Sim Pad Nano will continue to work with its existing features. However, we are unable to update it to meet Windows security requirements due to vulnerabilities in the hardware. Replacement PCBs and parts will continue to be provided until we are no longer producing parts.

Our Tap Duo is the new replacement for the Sim Pad 2. We do not have plans on making a replacement for the Sim Pad Nano.

Private Equity Acquisitions

In the past 2 years, we have received a few offers from private equity firms to acquire our company. While we are grateful for the offers, we have rejected all offers and will continue to reject them in the future. We did not believe the offers would provide our customers with continued long term product/warranty support.

Partnerships with Retail Stores

We are currently looking into partnering with existing retail stores to display/sell our products. If you know any potential stores that are interested in a collaboration located in the Los Angeles area, please let us know at hello@momokai.com.
