This guide will help you flash the latest version of the Tap Trio QMK firmware using QMK toolbox.
Flashing the latest firmware resets the device back to original factory settings.
1. Download QMK Toolbox. Choose the latest non-beta version.
2. Download the latest V1.30 firmware hex file below for your device.
For Full Speed Mode firmware, please scroll down to the bottom of this page.
If you are having issues launching QMK Toolbox, please check if you meet the system requirements for QMK Toolbox here.
Open QMK Toolbox in administrator mode, under Local file, select the firmware .hex file.
If it is your first time opening QMK Toolbox, you will get a prompt to install all drivers, click yes.
Under MCU (AVR only), select ATmega32U4
You will need to put your device into bootloader mode to flash the firmware.
Unplug the device, hold down the bootloader key, and plug it back in. Your device should be recognized by QMK Toolbox and the lights on the device should be off.
For Tap Trio, the bootloader key is the left key.
For Tap Duo, the bootloader key is the middle quick action button.
For Aurora, the bootloader key is the first row, left key.
If successful, QMK Toolbox should say "Atmel DFU device connected..."
Click "Clear EEPROM" and the memory reset process will start. Once completed, the QMK terminal should say "EEPROM clear complete"
Click flash and the firmware should flash onto the device. Your device should automatically restart. If not, unplug the device and plug it back in to complete the flashing process.
Do not unplug the device during the flashing process.
Tap Trio V1.30 firmware adds macro recording and delays in VIA, lighting on press modes, changed LEDs to shut off when computer is powered off or in sleep mode, added support for Full Speed Mode, and minor fixes. Tap Duo and Aurora ships with V1.30 firmware.
Full Speed Mode uses a different debounce algorithm to reduce input delay by ~5ms. It will no longer simulate the natural input delay of a keyboard. You can revert back to the original algorithm by flashing the V1.30 firmware.
Full Speed Mode can cause your device to double tap depending on which type of switches you are using. We noticed that some tactile switches are more prone to double tapping when using Full Speed Mode. If this happens, please revert back to the original V1.30 Firmware or try a different switch.
To check if full speed mode is activated, once the firmware is flashed, the device should reset and the lighting should be purple.

Full speed mode doesn't always work with every type of switches. Some tactile switches can double tap while in full speed mode.
For rhythm game users, full speed mode runs slightly faster than traditional keyboards. So if you are used to the timing of a traditional mechanical keyboard, full speed mode can feel like the timing is off from what you are used to.
